Session 14 – Supporting Characters

Who’s on your bus? and I am talking about the bus that you want to be on… that is the question that Session 14 of Danielle Laporte’s FireStarter Sessions has us take a look at. Didn’t you hate riding the bus with that mean bully kid, or that really loud girl that never ever stopped talking? If we are collaborating with people that we don’t respect and don’t believe in, then we need to take a good long look at why in the world we are doing that. Our supporting characters don’t need to have the exact same world view that way we do, but they do need to be on the same side of the fence when it comes to integrity, saying yes to possibility and dreaming the big dream.
If you are spending your time and energy trying to get everyone to drink your visionary kool-aid and they are having none of that, you may want to rethink who is sitting at your table with you. Now, you need people around you that will tell you when they think your vision might be sending you out into a batch of quicksand. We all need truth tellers surrounding us. It’s the naysayers and those of limited vision that we want to sit at the other table or work on a project for somebody else.
If you had five minutes to ask anyone in the world for advice, who would it be? Or would you be afraid to ask? We all need support in different arenas (sometimes even in our own arena), but often times our pride (or ego) get in the way. Sometimes we need to spend that mighty dollar and hire that expert advice. It is usually a dollar well spent. There are no shortcuts, but a good expert can definitely get your foot on the accelerator.
Now is the time to get quiet (again – lots of quiet, reflective time going on here) – and ask yourself the following….

Here’s what we’re going for: a pithy summation of your life philosophy. Write a short poem that says it all. Say it in iambic pentameter, in 140 characters or less, or fashion it as a campaign statement. Shake out the most meaningful words with these questions and then hone your declaration.
